Juega Como Uni Niña ~ Play Like a Girl
Artwork by Pamela Enriquez-Courts.
Metallic Acrylic on Canvas Board, 16 × 20 inches.
“Itza and HueHue have challenged their friends to a fun game of ōllamaliztli (OH-la-mal-EE-stli). The Mesoamerican game of ōllamaliztli was a two or more player game where a rubber ball had to be kept in motion while trying to get it through the stone ring located on the upper side walls of the ballcourt. There are many variations of this game, but my girls are using their hands because this game always reminded me of today’s handball.”
