El Arbol de Mictlan ~ The Tree of Mictlan
Artwork by Pamela Enriquez-Courts.
Metallic Acrylic on Canvas Board, 14 × 11 inches.
“After the soul departs this world, it must then travel four years through treacherous places and go through many trials to reach the place of eternal rest, Mictlan. My tree of Mictlan is not based on any actual story of Mesoamerican mythology, but it is more of a representation of rebirth after death. The Xolo dogs hold their torches and protect the tree from invaders who may seek to explore where they are not welcome.”
